Government at its Finest…
June 2nd 2002, a show premiered on HBO, it was called “The Wire” The basic plot of the series was Cops vs Big time/small time Drug dealers. It was a look inside the Baltimore ghetto’s and big city government. It coupled federal law, state law and legalities of wire taps etc. It was a show with incredible realism and a never ending storm of F-Bombs..
Most people haven’t got a clue how the political structure of our local government works. Especially if you live in the big cities. If you live in rural counties and towns it’s far less complicated.
If you can get it on NETFLIX or by other means, watch this series. Go back and sit through the crap for a while. It’s worth watching, especially if you’re not familiar with the political vs community inner workings. And after you watch a few episodes, I want you to see how our NATIONAL government is being ran now.
The wire, shows the kind of people we’ve elected to higher office. Now I’m sure there’s some creative liberties taken from time to time. But I also know that there’s a large amount of truth behind the scenes.
The Wire sets up in Baltimore city, a corrupt political structure, some great cops and some who should be locked up. There are many twists and turns through five seasons. I’m betting folks in Law Enforcement in big cities like LA/CHI/NY can relate to a lot of the show. And if truth be told, there’s probably a ton of politicians who took notes on how to get over on the system… Cooking the stats, the books, education figures, social advancement, fraud, bribes, kickbacks, futures made and broken based on political aspirations.
You will also notice that the entire series is set in a city ran by DEMOCRATS. There’s a few times where the Republicans get a bad rap, but the entire government structure of this series is a democrat wet dream. Trying to find solutions to problems without offending anyone, without risking your job for doing what’s right. Solutions to money problems when there’s NO TAX BASE to raise taxes on…. Yeah, that’s the best part of the show to me. Watching them squirm…

I purchased the entire series because it was so incredibly well done.
Those who produced The Wire also produced HOMICIDE in the late 1990s. The show with Yaphet Kotto and others.
Because I had read the original book, “Homicide, a Year on the Killing Streets” by David Simon.
Because, of course, I was a detective in my own department’s Homicide unit.
And yes, it’s a wonderful insight into how things work in a Demorat paradigm.
