Southern California Fires.

For my friends in other states and countries here is the latest in our area.

FIRES UPDATE: Latest numbers for Southern California blazes

These are the latest numbers on the fires in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties.

More than 800 houses, mobile homes and apartments were destroyed by fires that have burned more than 34 square miles since breaking out Thursday.

The most threatening blaze had burned 10,475 acres in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange counties after erupting Saturday and shooting through subdivisions entwined with wilderness parklands.

The fire burned 119 homes in the cities of Corona and Yorba Linda and the Anaheim Hills area of Anaheim. In addition, 50 units of an apartment complex burned, Orange County fire spokeswoman Angela Garbiso said.

A fire in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley grew to more than 9,500 acres after destroying 500 mobile homes, nine single-family homes and 11 commercial buildings early Saturday. Firefighters were making progress Sunday and by midmorning it was 35 percent contained.

About 90 miles northwest of Sylmar, a 1,940-acre fire that began in the upscale Santa Barbara County community of Montecito on Thursday night was 75 percent contained by Sunday morning. County spokesman William Boyer said 106 homes burned in the city of Santa Barbara and 77 burned in adjacent Montecito. He said the final total could reach 200, many of them multimillion-dollar homes with ocean views.

At least 13 people were injured in that fire.

We don’t have the high sustained winds we had yesterday, but we still have the lack of humidity. It is very dry, and there is a light wind blowing with a few gusts.

Remember last year, during the Immigration protest time frame, we had a lot of fires too… I wonder if these fires are a form of protesting a perceived injustice? Just thinking out loud.

There are 2 fires burning or have burnt that are considered suspicious, some arrests associated with a fire have been made, that is on the down low right now but it will be in the media within the next couple of days.

Some thoughts on Gustav

Some thoughts on Gustav

I saw the devastation first hand shortly after Katrina struck NOLA and the surrounding area, I hoped and prayed that our nation never suffered such a disaster again. I came home and increased my disaster preparation fund, my home insurance and our emergency stock-pile of goods. And I know a majority of people that went to offer aid shortly after Katrina did the same thing. The incredible amount of suffering after that storm, could have been eased by some prior preparation, and common sense. I am not criticizing anyone I am stating a fact.

Gustav is barreling down as I type this, it is going to hit in roughly the same area as Katrina, it may not be as big, it may not cause as many problems, and it might just be a little storm. But, one thing is for sure, the leaders in Louisiana are WAY more competent now than they were then, the DEMOCRAT Governor at the time of Katrina couldn’t find her ass with both hands, and the MAYOR, which the good people of NOLA seen fit to Re-Elect was as useless as tits on a bull.

NOW, Louisiana has a very good man leading the charge, he also has the benefit of seeing what went wrong during Katrina. I hope for the best mind you, I have some folks in that area that I would not want anything bad to happen to. But if you stay behind after the warnings, if you decide you will ride it out, I don’t want to see your ass on a roof top crying for help.

I did like what the Mayor said “Looters will be sent to Angola and placed in the General Population”. GOOD, but it worries me a bit, I mean it might be a good way for family reunions to take place on the governments dime. Now you know you were thinking it!

The other thing about this storm that has me pissed off is the Demorats. The sorry little bastards talking about how this is Gods way of saying he is on the demorat side. I highly doubt that, I would imagine that God in his infinite wisdom and all knowingness would be a Republican, or at least more in line with the RIGHT side of the aisles thinking. Baby Killing, same sex acceptance, and atheism are all things frowned upon in the bible.

I think GOD is a Conservative… Even he didn’t want George Bush and Dick Cheney to speak at the convention…again YOU WERE THINKING IT!

Our prayers are with those in the Gulf Coast right now, I wish the first responders and disaster recovery crews the best of luck in their work. Those folks will need every prayer we can muster.

We were shakin…

Strong quake rattles buildings, nerves in S. Calif

LOS ANGELES – The strongest earthquake to strike a populated area of Southern California in more than a decade rattled windows and chandeliers, made buildings sway and sent people running into the streets on Tuesday. But there were no immediate reports of serious injuries or major damage.

The 5.4-magnitude quake — considered moderate — was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and as far east as Las Vegas, 230 miles away. Nearly 30 aftershocks quickly followed, the largest estimated at 3.8.

The quake was centered 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills, a San Bernardino County city of 80,000 built mostly in the early 1990s with the latest in earthquake-resistant technology.

For those of you that didn’t hear; My area was doing a little rockin and rollin.

I really hate earthquakes, it’s not so much the shaking, it’s the short period of time when things are shaking that you are out of control, all you can do is wait. You get no warning, and you don’t know how far away it hit. We were worried that somewhere got really hit hard and we were far away from the center, not the case at all this time. Chino Hills is not that far from us, and we felt it pretty good.
Luckily we are all fine, thanks for all your emails and calls..
