Fierce Gunfights, Airstrikes in Gaza as Israel Readies Next Phase of Offensive
Israeli troops battled Palestinian gunmen on the outskirts of Gaza City Sunday in one of the fiercest ground battles so far as Israel’s military inched toward Gaza’s population centers and residents braced for a possible expansion of the offensive.
The fighting in the Sheikh Ajleen neighborhood erupted before dawn and continued through the morning as Israeli infantrymen and tanks advanced toward Gaza City and its approximately 400,000 residents, Palestinian witnesses said. Hamas and the smaller militant group Islamic Jihad said they ambushed the Israelis, leading to some of the heaviest fighting since Israel sent ground forces into the coastal territory on Jan. 3.
Gunfire subsided in the early afternoon, with the Israelis in control of buildings in Sheikh Ajleen.
On Sunday, Hamas rockets struck two Israeli schools — one in Sderot and another in Ashdod. No injuries were reported in either attack.
The real hero’s are those pictured, the Israeli foot soldier that confronts the Islamic terrorist on his own turf. The Israeli military that is using the firepower it has to destroy Hamas. While not nearly as destructive as I would like them to be, they are acting in the CORRECT manner. They are giving the finger to the UN and the US and recognizing the dangers they face will not be secured by either of them. The UN nor the US will be around to do anything other than pick up the pieces if Israel lets Hamas off the hook. Israel looks to make amends for the cluster fuck in Lebanon, and make sure it doesn’t happen here.

when I drew the parable of Northern Ireland it was for a reason. It is not entirely dissimilar. It was about Land, with a “terrorist organisation” that wanted nothing less than the ethnic cleansing of Ireland of every UK land-owner/resident. 400 years ago the Brits displaced the locals, took the best land, gave it to themselves and without regard for the misery it caused. And 400 years of conflict ever since. You are absolutely right – your country is surrounded by Governments who denie your right to exist; but the reality – the conflict – is about getting their land back. The IRA may be different to Syria, Egypt etc. but the cause was the same. So if I ask you to look at 60 years of history (at least its better than 400 years). If all you want is a final solution to the problem then comments asked for are not necessary. Just built some gaz ovens – end of problem? But if you want a solution that doesn’t involve that – and 400 years of conflict – then destroying Hamas is not going to solve the problem – and at the moment it may be simply storing up more. What to do? I don’t know but look at the past – look at the UK solution to Northern Ireland; The neighbours Syria, Iran may never change their views, but they are kep in check by the international community, especially America; the question is how to live with the Palestinians so they don’t feel they have to fire rockets and strap bombs to women. While my country is not at war, one of my cousins, as he explained, told me not to belief the bullshit our newspapers tout about how well “diplomatic relations” with some country are going. I was asking for advice on whether or not to volunteer for a 5 year service term instead of my basic 2 year draft.

You’ve let them write, for the most part, their true feelings which are remarkably revelatory. The reason I try to limit censorship in my own comments section is for the reasons clearly displayed here: the Left and their thoughts simply speak for themselves. The best and most effective combatants to the Left are the Left themselves.
I kept reading the half-truths, outright lies and ignorance (Gaza is a town?) expounded by Hamas-supporters in this comment section, and shake my head at the poor spelling, syntax and execrable grasp of history displayed therein.

If all you want is people who agree with you – then say so – “this is a site for idiots and my opinion regardless if it is right or wrong”. “Comments only from other idiots and those that agree with me”.
