Chicago Officer Shot and Killed.

Chicago Officer Shot and Killed.

Another Cop killed in Chicago.

Officer shot, killed in Park Manor

A 62-year-old off-duty Chicago Police officer who faced mandatory retirement next month was shot to death this morning in an apparent robbery attempt after finishing a shift guarding the mayor’s home, officials said.

Officer Michael Bailey was cleaning his car outside his home in the 7400 block of South Evans in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side when he was shot in the torso at about 6 a.m., sources said. He was pronounced dead at about 6:40 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The 20-year veteran officer was assigned to the Central District, which encompasses downtown, and was not a member of Mayor Daley’s official security detail.

In a statement, Daley said, “I knew him. He was a good man. He did not deserve this.”

Bailey — still in uniform after finishing his shift — managed to fire his duty weapon, but it’s unclear whether anyone was wounded. Sources said they did not know how many people were involved in the attempted holdup.

There are conflicting reports on this, one says the officer just finished his shift as part of Mayor Daley’s security detail. This one says he was not part of the security detail.

Either way my prayers and well wishes for the family of this officer are sent up high.

Now, lets get to the underlying story. Daley, the most anti-gun mayor in the nation sees fit to have ARMED guards for himself, but has tried to disarm the good citizens of Chicago. Does anyone else see this as a little ridiculous?

Look you want to be “Anti-Gun” fine, but have the courage of your conviction. IF you want all guns removed from the law abiding citizens, then DO NOT HAVE ARMED GUARDS YOURSELF.

I’m betting the guys that killed this off duty officer were not registered firearm owners, and I’m pretty damn sure they were not members of the NRA.

I’ll tell you another thing, this stinks. Something doesn’t smell right about this. As we have learned about Chicago Politics, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was a hit. The man was going to be retiring, he was a cop, he was an upstanding cop, he was killed by a firearm and the officers gun was found “Empty and opened.” Why would robbers leave the gun? IF they don’t turn up at a hospital with gunshot wounds, I’m not believing this was a random act.

Never let a crisis go to waste in Chicago…This becomes a “DALEY talking point” to enact his removal of all handguns from Chicago.

  1. Sadly, Robert, I tend to agree. Something doesn’t smell right—and this is the 3rd cop murder in 2 months in Chicago.
From what I have read, Officer Bailey was an outstanding cop…all around gentleman and loved and respected by many.
Sure seems like it’s been open season on cops this year and I’m sick of it!
