Ammo dealer feeling Pinch of Boycott

Ammo dealer feeling Pinch of Boycott

Time for action Gun guys and Gals:

Payson’s first ammunition manufacturer was shut out of a lucrative deal with Los Angeles County law enforcement after several California cities boycotted all trade with Arizona.

In its opening month of operation, Advanced Tactical Armament Concepts LLC (ATAC), manufacturer of “HPR” ammunition, has cranked out more than a million rounds. Boxes and boxes of cartridges sit neatly stacked in an industrial building near the Payson Airport — ammunition the owners had hoped to sell to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

However, ATAC hit a wall after the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors boycotted all trade with Arizona businesses over the newly adopted immigration law, SB 1070.

ATAC partners Jim Antich, Jeff Antich and Josh Phair say they are fired up after the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors banned all travel and trade with Arizona.

“California boycotting Arizona just because Arizona is trying to enforce the law is ludicrous,” Jim said. “We support legal immigration.”

Jim added he 100 percent supports 1070, which he feels is Arizona’s way to enforce existing federal immigration laws.

If only half of the pro 2nd amendment guys and gals that read my blog bought a box or two from these guys, it would go along way to help them out and the ammo is made in the USA…

IF you can support these guys. Scottsdale Ammo I just bought a couple of boxes.

  1. Awesome that there is a new ammo plant in great patriot state of Arizona. Too bad California continues to act like a foreign country that starts with an “R”

In some quick research, looks like HPR is some quality stuff! Good review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riQYX_zcetQ

I’m going in on 2,000 rounds to start! Not to mention that I’m excited about their 380 Auto prices. 🙂

    Thanks for posting this Robert.

    1. Right on Jim, we need to help these guys and it’s good for us to be armed…Not so good for the anti American forces aligned against us, that’s why they are trying to stop ammo sales, and gun sales. CONTROL.

  2. Just took a real close look at their .40 ammo…. Looks like it’s FMJ… Might be OK for practice, but if it’s not 180gr Hollow Point, I just can’t use it… Especially when I can get Ranger Talons, 180gr bonded, for about the same price… I’m all for helping Arizona any way I can, but I am NOT gonna sacrifice stopping power for anyone…

Re-man brass on the .223? That IS practice ammo… I won’t fire reloads from ANYONE… They may have the tightest specs in the business, but it’s still a reload…

  3. Texas Fred,

By no means no offense but sounds like you’ve only been exposed to the reload crap at the gun shows. I suggest researching the ammo industry a bit more. I’ve shot Black Hills Blue Box for YEARS and it’s reman. I’d stack that reman box against ANY new box of regular Winchester, Federal, Magtech, etc etc Also, reman 223 is the way to go. Lake City is some of the top in the game. The pricing on HPR is pretty attractive for me, but like vehicles there are brands, styles, types for everyone. In looking at the Scottsdale ammo website, their 380 is new brass and they have Hollow Points. I’m going to shoot them an email and inquire about JHP in other calibers as well. Will report back.

Thanks again for the heads up Robert.

    1. Jim, I appreciate your feedback on the ammo quality. I’ve known Fred for a long time and he’s correct most of the time. About Guns he’s probably got a 95% correct rating. I do hear that he loves 9mm pink revolvers though…

Seriously, Fred aint buying nothing that don’t have the pop to knock down a charging Rhino with one shot. Myself on the other hand do a lot of shooting at targets in the desert. Buying that REAL GOOD ammo is not cost effective for practice. I bought a couple boxes of these and will test them out soon. Not to mention it’s more of a “Support” than a “Smart purchase” We need to back our boys when they are up against it. IF they make a superior product all the better.

That is part of the problem I guess. Make a superior product, and little boycotts won’t affect you. So far I’ve heard nothing but good reviews on the quality of their products. Maybe not as good as some, but for the price surely reasonable.

  4. Jim Hines, by no means no offense, but you’re entitled to YOUR opinion as am I…

I base MY opinion on having carried guns for a living for 31 of the last 56 years, many hours on the range as a shooter and range master and in the classroom as a student and teacher.

Reloads are, in MY opinion, just that, reloads, and far less than desirable. I base that on having had an S&W Model 27 blown to hell and back in MY hand when I was shooting some of those supposedly marvelous, and well made reloads and on having seen far too many kB’s over the years caused by defective reloads…

Not to say that a factory load can’t produce a kB, but the odds are, again, in MY opinion, far lower…

By all means, shoot reloads if you like, far be it for me to tell YOU what to do, as for me, I’ll pass…

  5. Fred, no worries – we all have preferences as long as we have choices on the shelves!

I too have quite a bit of experience and here is a little insight. US State Department resources training for other countries’ counter-terrorism police. For the past 2+ years they have been supplying that effort with new production Federal, 115 grain FMJ 9mm. They have had a consistent 30% failure rate from that run of new production. They were having better luck with re-manufactured. Again, a big big factor is how it’s loaded and the quality of those components. Federal is not a high grade producer and much of it is now done in Mexico.

All this being said, know your equipment and know each lot.

I did get in my HPR shipment from the order I placed. Haven’t shot any yet (hope to within the next few days) but in taking a look, the brass is extremely well polished, smooth, which should make for a nice feed. Sizing them up, looks like consistent lengths and primers seated perfectly.

I did put in a quick call. Seemed like nice people and said that going forward the majority of hand gun cal’s will all be in new brass. Each caliber should start to roll out boxes of new brass cartridges within 30-45 days along with Hollow Points too.

Excited to see them expand. We really could use another ammo manufacturer in the USA because any conflict could stop the importation from Russia/Korea, etc and we’d have major ammo issues again. Not to mention the jobs this is helping with.

    Regards, JH
