Hurricane Katrina Anniversary…

Those of you that know me, know that shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit we jumped into action. We put together a plan to not only send aid, but to also offer ourselves. My wife and I gathered the funds, supplies and people that were willing to give of themselves. We took 9 people, 3 vehicles and a big trailer full of supplies.

The trip was both humbling and rewarding for us. We stayed in a church in Luling LA and used it as base camp. Our first order of business was to help them get the church prepared to be a place people could come and get food. Once we finished that, our mission then turned to helping people put tarps on their roofs, and gutting houses before the mold set in.

We spent a lot of time helping people that were trying to help themselves. Some folks were exhausted from trying to do it all on their own. One particular resident of one parish, passed out in the lawn while we went to work on his house. We let the man sleep.

Then there was the other end of the spectrum where a man was sitting in lawn chair with a cooler full of beer, waiting for someone to do all the work for him. He actually had an attitude with me, when I told him to start on it and we’d come help. Not a good idea considering I was heavily armed during our entire trip. That guy never did lift a finger so we didn’t either.

We took many pictures too many to post here. This was 5 years ago, we had plans to go back the very next year and help with the rebuilding part. BUT once the people of NOLA elected Mr Chocolate City, we figured they had it under control.

Now Obama is going to NOLA to claim he fixed all the issues with his wand or some shit. Oh well, we know the truth.
