A day away

A day away

Some folks go for a ride, some folks sit back and drink a cold one or twenty, we take off and go hiking!

For those of you that know us in person, you know we enjoy off-roading and camping under the stars, and over the last couple of years we have got into hiking. We have found ways to enjoy the outdoors and get a little exercise at the same time. We decided we needed to take a hike Thursday (I know several of my fans have told me to take a hike, and to them I say G.F.Y)  Anyway, we hit Joshua Tree national Park. It’s about a 2 hour drive from our house and it’s the place where the Sonoran Desert meets the Mojave Desert. The weather was awesome, and the views were fantastic. Enjoy:

We started here, it’s the beginning of the “lost Palms Oasis trail” 4 miles to the palms, over some pretty good ridges and through some very sandy washes. Rock formations as well as cactus and views of mountains, and the Salton sea frame the hike.

Once over the first ridge, about a mile from the trailhead this was  the view.

Not a cloud in the sky, but at this time of the hike the wind was howling and it was still kind of cool.

The snow was visible on the mountains in the distance, and the Salton Sea in the center.

Better view of the Salton Sea. This was taken at mile marker 2.

If you look close you can see the trail we were hiking. HINT- Follow the valley.

This was the Palms Oasis, it is supposed to be the largest collection of California fan Palms or something like that… I know that it was really strange to be that far away from ANYTHING, and see water in the middle of the desert. Pretty awesome.

Every once in a while a person needs to get away from all the BS going on and look around. We live in a very awesome country, the beauty of America is NOT in DC, it is in places like this. The people we met on the trail and at the Ranger station make this country great.

While I know a lot of folks that hike are uber liberal tree hugging petards, there are more and more “RIGHT” minded individuals hitting the trails these days, the difference is; the Libtards and tree hugging douchebags are not armed. LOL.
