The Obama Speech Recap.
I attempted to watch the speech with an open mind. Hoping to hear some type of mea-culpa or at the very least a couple of kudos to the forme POTUS. (Pipe dream I know)
Obama has criticized Bush for his entire time in elected office. He has opposed everything Bush did in Iraq. A lot of us did. IF Iraq turns out to be another “Egypt” or at the very least a non-threat to the world then Iraq was worth the effort and I will apologize for some of my statements regarding the Iraq war.
Here is what he said:
…As we do, I am mindful that the Iraq War has been a contentious issue at home. Here, too, it is time to turn the page. This afternoon, I spoke to former President George W. Bush. It’s well known that he and I disagreed about the war from its outset. Yet no one could doubt President Bush’s support for our troops, or his love of country and commitment to our security. As I have said, there were patriots who supported this war, and patriots who opposed it. And all of us are united in appreciation for our servicemen and women, and our hope for Iraq’s future.
Anyone see anything in there crediting GWB with the successes of Iraq? Basically in typical progressive lingo he said
“Everyone has their opinions on this and mine was just as good as yours because I’m the messiah, the savior of the disaster you left behind. I mentioned your name only because they said I had too, now let me get back to blaming you for everything wrong”
I didn’t oppose the surge. Obama did. Why not just say, “I was wrong when I opposed the surge, I was not as supportive as I should have been to the POTUS at the time and I have learned that lesson as I think we all should”….Then move on. That type of statement from ANY elected official will gain respect from MANY of us. The fact that you appear to be never wrong and carry yourself in that manner does nothing to instill trust in you from the population.
The other thing that struck me in his speech was his “Economic” tie in. 1 trillion dollars in wars. Okay, 10 years of wars 1 trillion dollars and many thousands of dead muslim low lifes…At least we are getting something for that money. The 2 years of Obamanomics have cost our nation 3 times that amount and we’ve got NOTHING.
After the speech all I could think was the nation just received a giant smoke enema.
