Obama sign is stirring up some emotion in Missouri
A billboard in West Plains showing a caricature of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama wearing a turban and using his middle name — Hussein — in quotes has sparked outrage and accusations of racism.
The sign, located south of West Plains on U.S. 63 across from the Dairy Queen, says: “Barack ‘Hussein’ Obama equals more abortions, same sex marriages, taxes, gun regulations.”
Outrage over the sign triggered West Plains resident Becky Estes to write a letter in Monday’s edition of the Daily Quill newspaper saying “such a tasteless display merely reinforces the wide-spread belief that Ozarkers are ignorant country bumpkins.”
“People don’t like it. They’re embarrassed by that sign, ashamed by that sign, horrified by that sign and outraged by that sign,” Estes told the News-Leader on Thursday.
Estes’ letter sparked responses from locals and out-of-state former residents in Wednesday’s newspaper. The person who created the sign remains anonymous.
“I can find nothing wrong with this sign/cartoon, which is truthful by Obama’s own statements,” wrote James E. (Jay) Gentry Jr. of Mountain Grove. “If this is upsetting to Ms. Estes, then she should do some hard thinking about what is forthcoming if he is elected.”
I wonder if the folks are upset that the sign uses “HUSSEIN” ? I mean Barack Hussein Obama’s Middle name IS Hussein so that can’t be it. Maybe they are objecting to his “likeness” wearing a turban? Well his father is a Muslim, his Brother in Kenya is a Muslim, his middle name is HUSSEIN, and Barack nor OBAMA are distinguished as American/Christian/Hindu or Budhist names…So I figure that can’t be it..
I am going with them objecting to the “Same Sex Marriage” part of the sign because Joe Biden said they did not support same sex marriage…Yep that’s the reason. :rollingeyes:

I know it sounds trite, but a friend and I were discussing this…how are real people affected by 9/11, going to react to ” I Barack Hussein Obama ,do solemnly swear to” yada,yada, on Jan 20 ? Just over 7 years since that fateful day ? The thought of hearing that makes me want to throw up.

Hi I live in Australia, and personally I hope Obama wins. He is the smartest man to run for president since JFK. Your country certainly needs more gun regulations for one thing. Have a look at your crime statistics, number of murders, Number of robberys, Anything really. It is a joke, people with guns are people who have the potential of taking a persons life, which isn’t right. The more guns the more people die. Get smart America, people in the rest of the world is laughing at you.
As for the emphasis on the muslim culture, do some research don’t go around making stupid signs. As for 9/11 that was an attack by an extremist group of islam. The muslims how comdone this kinda of action are a very small minority group in the large amount of muslims in the world. Get with the times America! As for the he dress the Obama cartoon is wearing that is a Turban, part of the Sikh culture in India, not the muslim culture. They have a completly different headress.

9-11 was an attack by a religion. it was an attack by MUSLIMS and it was the fault of ALL Muslims for not stopping their radical element. Christians have radicals too, they hold signs and abuse the right of freedom of speech.
