They didn’t have the right to teach my kids that man on man or woman on woman marriage was an acceptable practice. They did not nor do they have the right to force their sexual urges on me or mine, they do not nor did they ever have the right to teach the gay and lesbian agenda in public schools.

The perception that this is a “CIVIL RIGHTS” issue is FALSE! The gay and lesbian issue is a SEX issue, it is not a COLOR issue.

Gay marriage ban foes take fight to the courts

SACRAMENTO – California’s nationally watched battle over same-sex marriage shifted yesterday from the voting booth right back to where it started: the courts.

Voters on Tuesday backed Proposition 8, which overturns a state Supreme Court ruling in May giving gays the right to marry, and opponents of the initiative wasted no time mounting legal challenges.

Bill Araiza, a law professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, did not offer opponents much encouragement as they head to court.

“At the end of the day, it is the people who determine what their constitution looks like,” Araiza said. “The idea that people are disabled from making changes to their own constitution is a hard argument to make to a judge.”

Proposition 8 drew more than 52 percent of the vote Tuesday, but opponents of the constitutional amendment yesterday were clinging to the hope that as many as 3 million uncounted ballots could swing the results their way.

State Attorney General Jerry Brown, who said he supports making same-sex marriage legal, nevertheless announced yesterday that he will take Proposition 8’s side in court.

“We will defend the law as enacted by the people. . . . We have that responsibility,” Brown said.

So what we have is a battle looming in the courts to overturn the will of the people, and we have a LAWYER, who DOESN’T support the ban defending it. :fingerwag:

I say we petition to remove Jerry Brown from the proceedings. I want someone who believes the ban is legal and who is going to represent the PEOPLE!

Here is some knowledge on Jerry Brown…. HE WROTE PROP 8.

Prop. 8 asks voters to affirm that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California” – a concept that voters overwhelmingly backed when they approved Proposition 22 in 2000.

Voters still favor the traditional definition of marriage, 49 to 47 percent, according to the most recent Public Policy Institute of California poll.

However, in the wake of the state Supreme Court decision in May legalizing same-sex marriage, Brown worded Prop. 8’s ballot description to specify that it “eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry.”

The proponents’ original title for Prop. 8 was “Limit on Marriage.” What voters see on their ballot pamphlet, thanks to Brown, is, “Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.”

Prop. 8 supporters accused Brown of playing politics and went to court.

They lost. The new language went on the ballot, and pollsters said support for the ban dropped by eight points – with the most recent PPIC survey showing 52 percent of likely voters now opposing the ban.

“It all depends on how you ask the question,” said Sacramento pollster Jim Moore of J. Moore Methods.

“When you ask people what they believe, you get one answer,” he said. “But when you ask someone to take away something from somebody else, it seems unfair.”

Field Institute pollster Mark DiCamillo agreed, noting that when his outfit tested the two wordings in September, support for Prop. 8 was three points lower on Brown’s version than the original.

As the state’s top law enforcer, Brown has taken no official position on Prop. 8.

But it’s interesting to note that he joined fellow Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Lt. Gov. John Garamendi at a Hollywood fundraiser for the No on 8 campaign last week.

So do we want the friend of “LIKE IT OR NOT, ITS COMING” Gavin Newsom and Antonio “I’ll say anything to keep my corrupt administration working in LA” Villaraigosa to be defending the vast majority of Californians that saw through the “Trip wire” He wrote in to the measure?
