I was driving to work yesterday and on the corner of Wells and VB there was a sign on an electrical box. it said “DON’T SHOOT TO KILL” in big black letters on white paper.

This sign is in regards to a recent police shooting that happened in the area.

RIVERSIDE – Dozens of relatives and friends of Fernando Luis Sanchez, who was shot to death in Arlanza by a Riverside police officer the evening of Sept. 11, protested the shooting Saturday.

The protesters started in Bryant Park and moved to the corner of Wells Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard where they held up signs that read “Stop the killing” and chanted “don’t shoot to kill.”

Sanchez’s family called for police to use less-than-lethal methods of subduing suspects.

“With so many things they can do today, they don’t have to kill them,” said Sanchez’s mother, Ida Sanchez, 61, citing Tasers and beanbag guns.

Fernando Sanchez was the second Riverside resident police shot to death this month. A pair of officers shot Carlos David Quinonez, 48, in La Sierra on Sept. 1 when he pointed a shotgun at them.

John DeLaRosa, assistant chief of the Riverside police, said he would not comment during the department’s internal investigation into the shooting.

An officer chased down Sanchez, 30, after Sanchez ran from a gas station convenience store when the officer tried to speak to him, police have said.

The officer, whose name hasn’t been released, struggled with Sanchez and the officer felt a gun in Sanchez’s pocket, according to police.

Sanchez wouldn’t take his hands out of his pocket and the officer, fearing for his safety, shot Sanchez several times, police said.

Sanchez had no outstanding warrants, police said. Police said in a news release that a handgun was found on Sanchez.

The family buried him Friday. He left behind three daughters, ages 11, 6 and 4, as well as his mother and father, a sister and three brothers.

Ida Sanchez said her son’s most defining characteristic was a sense of humor that cheered everyone up.

“He was like a jokester,” she said. “He saw you down, you wouldn’t be down any longer.”

Ida Sanchez said it’s not the first officer-involved death in her family. Riverside police also shot and killed one of her nephews, Paul Carrion Jr., 20 years ago when he was 16.

Her daughter and Fernando Sanchez’s sister, Phyllis Carranza, 42, said police are never held accountable when they kill someone.

“It’s ridiculous,” Carranza said. “There’s too many senseless deaths.”

So “Don’t shoot to kill”???????????

Does anyone really care about the whole story? Obviously NOT:

Here is the WHOLE STORY:

The real story as I hear it from several people including ONE relative of his. Nano or Nono or whatever the fuck his nickname was, just returned from an attempted DRIVE BY SHOOTING, and there was a B.O.L.O out for the vehicle he was in. He and his partner pulled up to get gas, and there was a PD Unit next door at the 7-11, the cop recognized the vehicle, just as Fernandez stepped out of the gas station, The cop called for him to come over, and Fernandez took off running down Wells, the cop gave chase, A scuffle ensued and the cop felt a gun in Fernandez waist band, the cop then broke contact pulled his weapon and called to Fernandez to raise his hands, and drop to his knees. Fernandez reached for his weapon… As my friend Fred likes to say “ADIOS MOTHER FUCKER”!

The drive by shooting this guy was involved in was not his first, he was a known gangbanger, and he had an arrest record including robbery, and assault. IMO Fernandez deserved to be shot, he deserved to be pissed on after he was shot…

As soon as I get time I am sending a gift basket to the officer and the entire West End PD for ridding our area of another menace.

  1. Well, here’s the deal:

Law enforcement went to the Tazer and beanbag shotguns because they were quantified as “less than lethal” force but NOT “non-lethal” force as some in copdom write. History is obviously showing that Tazers CAN be lethal dependent upon the individual’s health, history and, at the moment of impact, what is known as “drugs on board.” There is also the adrenaline affect known as “excited delirium” which also comes into play.

As Rangemaster of my department, I told my department that suits would become such that there would be little reason to spend all the extra dollars on “less than lethal” force as it would soon prove to in fact BE lethal in SOME cases. But, of course, that’s all it takes for the ACLU and various other “humanitarian” organizations to object TO “less than lethal” force. I said in an Exec Staff meeting that money would be better spent divesting of LTL and, instead, investing in more range time, rounds, placement and gun handling skills.

I am being proven correct. An injury tort settlement yields almost the same amount of liability exposure or money as a “wrongful death” suit. You may as well shoot them. Again, I am being proven correct.

All trainers in firearms state that officers do not utilize firearms to wound, “wing” or kill. They shoot to STOP the offender from the actions requiring the utilization of the firearm. We train to stop ONLY when the OFFENDER’S deadly or harmful actions STOP.

There is some serious re-thinking and re-consideration going on in the law enforcement training communities throughout the nation. Too many “stops” in the Force Continuum (Officer thinks: “Hmm. Should I use harsh language? Sarcasm? Empty hand? Baton? Tazer? ‘Found’ objects? Beanbag? Pepperball? My sidearm? My shotgun? My long rifle?”) result in muddy thinking or late thinking in human beings.

  2. BZ says it all. LTL is good in theory but we all know how treacherous it can be.

If the situation calls for lethal means, the officer should not be charged for it, it is just his job. In the video game SWAT 4 I “failed” a number missions because I shot the suspect BEFORE he shot the hostage or me. Having seen how cops have to operate, the libtards should shut up and let them do their job. :shootin:

  3. I’d be happy to chip in a few bucks for that basket! Should I hit the tip jar?

Our cops put their lives on the line every single day, but they aren’t suppose to defend themselves against scum? I don’t bloody well think so!

  4. “DON’T SHOOT TO KILL”??

Well, ya damn sure don’t shoot the SOB to make him feel good… :devilsmiling:

I have heard some ignorant asswipes say, “Couldn’t you just shoot him to wound him?? Or shoot him in the leg or something??”

The man that truly taught me to shoot, and BZ likely knows the name, retired BP Commander Bill Jordan, told us all that it’s easier to explain a dead body than a live and hurt one…

Dead bodies don’t sue you either… The family might but that’s the breaks… And you NEVER shoot to wound, center mass, in the 10 ring, and here’s the “Fred philosophy”, ANYTHING worth shooting is worth at least 2 or 3 rounds, a double tap or a 3 round burst..

And with the big honkin’ pistol I carry, 2 is overkill, 3 is just showing off… :devilsmiling:

  5. @Trish: No kidding, Funny how these idiots can make time to show and blame someone else for the loss of their family, but when THEIR family kills another they are silent.. They wont show up at community meetings to discuss crimes in the hood, because it cuts in on their action.

Screw em, I hope the SOB is on fire now. Sounds bad but I’m sick and tired of these worthless gangbangers, thugs and thieves. I’ll find out which cop shot the idiot and I’m going to give him a gift card for a nice dinner.

  6. @Bloviating Zeppelin: You know, somehow I had a feeling YOU would have an opinion on this. LOL

And a valid opinion based on years of experience and actually being there. NO better opinion can be exacted.

  7. BZ did, indeed, say it all. Why arm the police if they aren’t allowed to use them?

And, Fred, knowing you, you probably don’t object to “showing off” when it come to perps.

Center mass until aggressive movement stops.

    All movements are considered aggressive.

Winging a criminal usually results in the criminal becoming ambidextrous, and trying to shoot you with the other hand…
