Pentagon Studying Intel on Iranian Missile Test Launch as Congress Mulls Action

WASHINGTON —  The Pentagon is studying Iran’s latest missile test to figure out exactly what was launched and what it shows about Tehran’s missile capabilities.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says Iran’s missile test bolsters the U.S. argument that Tehran is a threat. He also says it counters Russia’s case against the need for a missile defense system in Europe.

Gates says the U.S. has said for some time that there is a real threat Iran could develop long-range missiles to use against Europe. He says Tehran’s launch of several missiles Wednesday helps make that point.

The White House called on Iran to refrain from any more tests. And Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday the tests are more evidence that the world needs the U.S. missile defense system.

It will remain unclear how significant the test was until it is fully analyzed, said Defense Department officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the ongoing assessment.

An early assessment showed that U.S. tracking systems detected seven missile launches, two officials said. Pentagon intelligence assesses that the launches were part of what it calls “troop training.” Officials noted that the test came during Iran’s “Noble Prophet” exercise — an exercise also held twice in 2006, each time including multiple missile launches.

Oh crap, Iran is on the warpath, and the leaders of that country are dumber than a reverend talking about de-nuttin a presidential candidate. Well let me just try to throw a little logic into the discussion: The reason Iran is playing this “War card” is they know GWB is in a weak position, Congress will do nothing more than threaten action, and the LEADER in the Presidential race here has said he will surrender, oops..I mean “Negotiate” with Iranian leaders.

The real issue is HOW negotiations start; Iran needs to be in a strong position before the surrender so they can get more stuff. That tactic is old as war itself.

Iran sees the USA as going LIBERAL/Demorat in the near future and they remember Jimmah Carter, now they have a chance to relive some history with Jimmy Carter part 2, only this time “Its Personal” you can tell cause ol Jimmy’s got a tan and he is ready to surrender NOW!

  1. Iran is ripe for two things. Open war, and / or full blown revolution. As noted over at Fred’s there are a lot of Iranians there that are not at all enamored of the Ayatollah’s. I think that a few SOC teams could be inserted with little difficulty, and they could … Encourage? Is that the correct terminology? The termination of the radicals that are currently in control of Iran.

  2. @Patrick Sperry: That would be preferable Pat, but with our leadership currently I donn’t have a lot of faith that they could pull that off. Well without announcing their intentions prior to carrying it out, you know that PC disease that is rampant in DC.
