Hurricane Katrina Anniversary…

Hurricane Katrina Anniversary…

Those of you that know me, know that shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit we jumped into action. We put together a plan to not only send aid, but to also offer ourselves. My wife and I gathered the funds, supplies and people that were willing to give of themselves. We took 9 people, 3 vehicles and a big trailer full of supplies.

The trip was both humbling and rewarding for us. We stayed in a church in Luling LA and used it as base camp. Our first order of business was to help them get the church prepared to be a place people could come and get food. Once we finished that, our mission then turned to helping people put tarps on their roofs, and gutting houses before the mold set in.

We spent a lot of time helping people that were trying to help themselves. Some folks were exhausted from trying to do it all on their own. One particular resident of one parish, passed out in the lawn while we went to work on his house. We let the man sleep.

Then there was the other end of the spectrum where a man was sitting in lawn chair with a cooler full of beer, waiting for someone to do all the work for him. He actually had an attitude with me, when I told him to start on it and we’d come help. Not a good idea considering I was heavily armed during our entire trip. That guy never did lift a finger so we didn’t either.

We took many pictures too many to post here. This was 5 years ago, we had plans to go back the very next year and help with the rebuilding part. BUT once the people of NOLA elected Mr Chocolate City, we figured they had it under control.

Now Obama is going to NOLA to claim he fixed all the issues with his wand or some shit. Oh well, we know the truth.

  1. And I told you what kind of cretins you were going to encounter once you got there…

I KNOW New Orleans, all too well… And I know the mindset of *The Chocolate People* that inhabit NOLA…

There was unbelievable destruction, but the death toll was mind boggling… The *Chocolate City* had over a week to get out, the *Chocolate Mayor* of the *Chocolate City* sat on his dead ass and thought of ways to make a few bucks off of the deal…

And before any dipshit from LBCC goes all huffy, *Chocolate* is what Ray-Ray named em… Just using HIS words to describe HIS city and HIS people…

The *Chocolate City* is still a disaster, it has been since the early 60’s that I can remember… No amount of government aid (free cheese) is going to save a place that is too apathetic to save itself…

    Let ’em eat *Chocolate*…

  2. Yeah we encountered a few winners..But we also encountered some really good folks too. One in particular that brought us Jambalaya made with venison and some great gumbo…That was cool. Some of the folks there had lost everything, but still found ways to come thank us for our efforts, and that to us meant more than any talk show appearance. We never let anyone in the press know we went, didn’t publicize it just did it.

And yep, Chocolate city clown and the leaders of that state had more blood on their hands than anyone in DC. That’s why they got a GREAT GOV. now.

  3. I commend you for your efforts, Robert. It sounds like you epitomize what being an American really stands for. God forbid that something like Katrina ever happens in my part of Oklahoma, but if it does, I hope someone like you shows up to lend a helping hand.

  4. That was a very kind thing for you to do at that time. I had no idea. However, as there is no “fixing stupid,” NOLA ought to be its very own now and in the future. When people won’t even get off their own asses to help themselves —

    Well, you know the rest.

  5. LD;
Thanks and GOD forbid it happens there I’d probably be on the first wagon train headed to that way. Oklahoma wouldn’t need that much help I’m sure.

BZ, No shit. Ya can’t fix it but you sure as hell can cage it up and lose the key!

I think the disasters in other areas of our country epitomize that fact. Take the recent floods in the south. The Government came in at the last minute to rescue them, however; the people affected by the floods were already rescued, and were in the process of rebuilding. So the only thing left for our vaunted Government to do was take credit…sigh…

Yeah, we probably have a little different mindset than some people I could name. We can usually take care of ourselves, but it’s nice to know we have people who are willing to help if needed.
