I think he was a dinosaur, he was outspoken he didn't exhibit common decency very often as it pertained to "A.A's" or Homo's had he stuck with HOMO'S his legacy might have been less cloudy. He pulled down conservativism with his bigotry. Folks such as Jesse Helms have pulled the party to new lows (though all the recent poor ethical behaviour hasn't helped).
